Personal Life

Bryan Danielson was born and raised in Aberdeen, Washington. His parents divorced when he was young.

He attended Aberdeen-Weatherwas High School.

Danielson cites several wrestlers as having an influence on his wrestling style, including William Regal, Toshiaki Kawada and Mitsuharu Misawa. He has also said the work of Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit was the base of his wrestling style, which he merged with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in order to develop his own style.

He relocated to Las Vegas in 2009, where he began training mixed martial arts at Randy Couture’s Xtreme Couture gym.

Whilst he was working for Ring of Honor, he succeeded Austin Aries as head trained of the ROH Wrestling Academy, he would remain in that position until 2007, when he was succeeded by Delirious.

After suffering several staph infections and elevated liver enzymes, Danielson made the decision in 2009, to become a vegan, although in 2012, he admitted that due to a recently developed soy intolerance and an inability to find enough non-soy based vegan food while on the road, he was no longer a strict vegan, he did add that still adheres to a mostly vegan diet.

In his book, Yes: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleManiaDanielson said that he does not drink because his father was an alcoholic.

In October 2012, a social media campaign began, in order to help Connor Michalek, a six year old suffering from cancer of the brain and spine, meet Bryan, who was Connor’s personal hero.

Bryan would meet Connor in December 2012, then again in October 2013, with Danielson saying that Connor was an inspiration to him because of ‘the way he approached life and the joy that he had’.

In one of professional wrestling’s more touching moments, Connor was at ringside when Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania XXX, and was the first person Bryan went to and embraced after the match.

On April 11, 2014, Danielson married Brie Bella. The pair had been together for nearly three years.

In July 2014, Danielson’s home in Phoenix, Arizona was broken into by two burglars. Danielson arrived home at the time and chased down one of the burglars, subduing him with a rear naked choke until the police arrived.

He is a supporter of the Seattle Seahawks and English Premier League club Everton.
