RAW General Manager, Mick Foley, then decided to book a Best of Seven Series, with the winner becoming the number one contender for the title.
The first match took place at SummerSlam, with Sheamus taking the victory. Sheamus then won the second and third matches to take a 3-0 lead.
Cesaro then staged a comeback, winning the next three matches to tie the series at 3-3, and send the pair into a deciding match at Clash of Champions.
Clash of Champions saw the match end in a no-contest.
The following night on RAW, Mick Foley decided to take the United States Championship out of the equation, instead offering Sheamus and Cesaro the opportunity to team together, and receive a WWE Tag Team Championship match further down the line.
Over the next few weeks, the pair would team up, however, neither man was happy with the situation. Despite this, they picked up some impressive victories, including one over the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day.
Sheamus and Cesaro are scheduled to face The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championships at Hell in a Cell.
At Hell in a Cell, The New Day retained their championships.
