Stephanie debuted as the sweet innocent daughter of Vince McMahon, who was stalked by The Undertaker. At the end of Backlash, The Undertaker abducted Stephanie. The following night on RAW, he attempted to marry her in an unholy ceremony in the middle of the ring, however, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin appeared to make the save.
Stephanie McMahon then began an on-screen relationship with Test, which would lead to a feud between Test and Shane McMahon, which culminated at SummerSlam in a ‘Love Her or Leave Her’ match, which was won by Test. The relationship between Test and Stephanie appeared to be going well, and the couple became engaged, and were set to marry in an in-ring ceremony. However, during the ceremony, Triple H interrupted and showed a video on the Titantron, which showed Triple H and a drugged Stephanie at a drive through marriage venue in Las Vegas, Nevada. The video continued to show Triple H and Stephanie getting married in a drive through ceremony.
Vince McMahon fought for his daughters honor at Armageddon, in a ‘no-holds barred’ match against Triple H. Triple H won the match, but after the match, Vince McMahon cornered Triple H in the corner and was about to hit him with the Sledgehammer, when Stephanie stopped him, asking him to give her the hammer and let her hit Triple H. When Stephanie went to hit Triple H, she lost her nerve, which allowed Triple H to get the sledgehammer and attack Vince. Then he turned his attention to Stephanie, it looked as though Triple H was going to attack her with the sledgehammer, but then he dropped the weapon and the two embraced.
The following night on RAW, Stephanie explained her actions, saying the whole thing was a plan from the start in order to get revenge on Vince for him having her abducted and terrorized by The Undertaker.
