In the weeks following the 2016 Royal Rumble, Goldust approached R-Truth with the idea of forming a new tag team. R-Truth was against the idea.
Goldust then continued to pitch the idea of a tag team to R-Truth for several weeks, until he finally gave up on the idea.
As Goldust gave up on the idea, R-Truth began to come around to the prospect, and began approaching Goldust about forming the team. Goldust was less than enthusiastic about the idea, given Truth’s constant denials in the previous weeks.
On the April 13 episode of Smackdown, Goldust and R-truth were scheduled to team together, however Goldust refused and R-Truth was replaced by Fandango.
The following week, R-Truth aligned himself with Tyler Breeze.
On the May 2 episode of RAW, Tyler Breeze defeated Goldust, with help from R-Truth. The following week, Fandango defeated R-Truth.
On the May 12 episode of Smackdown the two teams faced each other. During the match, R-Truth and Goldust refused to fight each other. This led to both Fandango and Tyler Breeze attacking Goldust, and Breeze picking up the win for himself and R-Truth.
During the attack, R-Truth attempted to help Goldust, but was beaten down by Fandango and Breeze.
The following week on RAW, Goldust and R-Truth teamed together as the newly formed Golden Truth. They faced Tyler Breeze and Fandango, now known as Breezango. The Golden Truth lost the match after R-Truth accidentally kicked Goldust.
The Golden Truth would then begin a losing streak, losing out to teams such as Breezango and The Dudley Boyz.
They picked up their first win at Money In The Bank, when they gained a manner of revenge over Breezango.
On July 19, The Golden Truth were drafted to the RAW brand, as a part of the 2016 WWE Draft.
